St. Luke's FoodNet Program
In 2004, St. Luke's began a new ministry program for David City and the surrounding area. Based on the FoodNet program in Lincoln, the Rural Food Connection was started in David City. The program provides food items for any interested persons each Thursday from 4:00 PM to 4:30 PM at the St. Luke's United Methodist Church. Food items are donated by area providers, collected by Region V volunteers and then distributed by volunteers. On average, 20 - 25 families pick up needed food items each week.
Food providers have included Dale's Food Pride, the Butler County Health Care Center, St. Joseph's Villa, Pizza Hut, and Didier's in Schuyler. Some garden vegetables are supplied by our local gardeners. Volunteers from St. Luke's, St. Mary's Catholic Church, and Redeemer Lutheran have helped make the program a success.
