THE PURPOSE OF ST. LUKE'S UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
Our purpose as a United Methodist Church is to experience the living Christ, to bring others to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, and to develop our God given talents through worship, study, fellowship, and service.
Never flag in zeal, be aglow with the Spirit, serve the Lord. Romans 12:11.
In light of our currents strengths and needs, the long range plans for our church include space development, sound financial footing, small group development and evangelism.
GOALS & PLANS OF ACTION
I. RADICAL HOSPITALITY
A. Do repairs and upkeep on church sign; install new sign on wall front.
B. Develop a Greeters program for first time visitors and sponsored public events.
C. Develop a Follow-up program for visitors.
D. Identify new members in the community and invite them to worship.
E. Have a quarterly "Movie Night" for the community.
II. HEARTWARMING WORSHIP
A. Develop a monthly contemporary worship service.
B. Utilize the hymnal supplements consistently during the year.
C. Invite other musical groups to share in worship.
D. Incorporate seasonal themes into the worship service.
E. Develop an annual Youth Sunday.
III. RISK-TAKING MISSION AND JUSTICE WORK
A. Continue support for Relay for Life, Genesis House and Blue Valley, etc.
B. Develop a Short-Term Mission trip for church members.
C. Continue the Food Net Program through the local church.
D. Provide services for shut-ins such as leaf raking, painting, etc.
E. Develop a Missions Weekend and partner with a missionary or project.
IV. VITAL FAITH FORMATION AND PRAYER
A. Develop ongoing small groups in the church, including a men's group.
B. Develop short-term, topical small group experiences.
C. Continue to emphasize Sunday School develop and new class starts.
D. Develop a college-age ministry through care packages, etc.
E. Develop seasonal worship experiences such as camping trips, etc.
V. GRACIOUS GENEROSITY
A. Utilize our current fund raisers and expand them as possible. This includes our Dinner Auction, Burger Feeds and Election Day Soup Supper.
B. Utilize the talents of area music groups and take a free-will offering.
C. Encourage the youth to have a "Gifts Auction" as a fund raiser.
D. Promote and teach tithing in worship.
E. Develop a "Finance and Spending" workshop.
VI. CONNECTIONAL JOY AND COMMITMENT
A. Participate in district and conference events.
B. Support our denominational special offerings.
C. Develop a "Sister Church" relationship with another UMC congregation in another state.
D. Develop a "pulpit exchange" with a minority church.
E. Participate in the "Church Vitality Indicator" program.
